Thanks again for your quick replies.

It turns out that the audio editing software I was using wrote the wav
files in a way that caused the clicks when played from sems.  Not sure
why.  But by simply opening the files in audacity and re-exporting
them (without making any edits), I was able to eliminate the clicks.

Sorry for bothering everyone with a problem in my own tools.  Oh, and
the culprit was NCH WavePad.
